For 28 Days, I commit myself to Be Grateful and Express Gratitude
Most days, I roll out of bed, put on my pants (one leg at a time), and head out to tackle whatever challenge the day has waiting for me. The hours of the day seem to fly by and I tend to crawl into bed at the end of the day feeling as if there was so much more that I could have or should have accomplished. In short, I rarely end my day feeling whole or fulfilled. And yet, when I pause and look around, I notice that there are so many people and moments in my life that truly bring me joy. During the month of September, I made a concerted effort to notice these parts of my life…the beautiful parts of my life. This month, I am committing myself to acknowledging these people and moments through gratitude. I found the following passage online. I think it captures the challenge nicely:
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and showing appreciation. It is a mindful acknowledgment of all that we have been given. When we focus on the abundance in our lives, we discover a greater capacity for generosity, cheerfulness, and contentment.
Expressing gratitude is a rewarding habit that affirms the grace of the giver. Gratitude opens our hearts, encourages us to savor each gift that comes our way, and magically frees us from jealously guarding our possessions. It lets us celebrate today rather than waiting for the next level of accomplishment or wealth. It is a reminder that one can always find reason to be glad.
So for the next 28 days, I will challenge myself to Be Grateful and Express Gratitude each day. I will also post to 428days.com and share some of what I have learned during the challenge. Of course, I invite you to share in this challenge with me.
